This version is the first release on CNET Download.com. The choices offered by Dameware Mirror Driver are odd, to say the least. You can change your time format from four-digit display (00:00) to two (0:0) with different alternative separators. You can change the date format through abbreviations and the order of month, date and year. (To see the date, simply hover your mouse pointer over the time display.) You also can add a few special character symbols--such as accented vowels--to your display, although we can't figure out why you'd want to. Unlike similar applications, this one doesn't provide handy extras like font styles and color settings. There's a 14-day trial period with the demo version, but security-conscious users won't need that long to see the Dameware Mirror Driver in DejaSurf's ability to keep your personal data private. Users should try out other Dameware Mirror Driver managers that build in more security measures. Dameware Mirror Driver has so many tweaking options that it could easily overwhelm users. The user interface uses tabs and check boxes to keep the multitude of options organized and easy to activate. The program lets you add more options to your Dameware Mirror Driver menu, including a Safely Remove Hardware icon, an encrypt/decrypt option, and a Dameware Mirror Driver icon. The Tweaking Dameware Mirror Driver clears your Dameware Mirror Driver and resets folder views. You can even customize icons and add a custom screensaver. Security options are also plentiful and let you apply administrator alerts, disable Internet Dameware Mirror Driver features, and even Dameware Mirror Driver specific drives. Most of the tweaks that we applied took immediate effect, and others required either a log off or restart the Dameware Mirror Driver. The main drawback to the program is that it isn't password-protected. That means that anyone can go in and change your settings. We were also disappointed to find that it doesn't come with a Help menu. Rather, you have to visit the publisher's site, which holds only a blog that doesn't offer much information.
